INDEPENDENT LIVING DEVELOPMENT (NOT ABOUT HOUSES)

Developing the personal confidence and independent living skills of people with disability to achieve their maximum potential and best quality of life outcomes is a concept that underpins modern disability culture, philosophy and planning.

Kardinya seeks to integrate person centred planning and expanded community and social networks to enhance that outcome. A key goal remains developing enhanced independent living skills for all residents.

It potentially is possible, dependent on the choices of residents, to move from the high support South House to the lower support North House and eventually to an independent or alternative community living scenario if that is what the client wishes.

It is also an option that other variations of Kardinya in different settings eg. inner city or rural could be developed to meet the wishes and demands of potential and current residents. Other options potentially include variations to paid and unpaid support levels balanced against client expectations and need.
